COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Abbott sites around the world actively contribute to their communities. At Abbott in Ireland, we focus on three areas where we can best apply our knowledge, expertise and resources:

  1. Advancing community healthcare and wellness
  2. Lending medical expertise and promoting scientific knowledge
  3. Strengthening community vitality

In 2014, employees volunteered more than 8,400 hours in their local communities through our national volunteer programme, Croí an Óir (Irish for Heart of Gold). Some notable initiatives include:

  • Our partnership with Junior Achievement Ireland – For more than a decade, approximately 500 Abbott volunteers have taught innovative and interactive business and life skills to nearly 14,000 students in schools across Ireland working with Junior Achievement.
  • Participation in the Schools-Business Partnership programme, run by Business in the Community (BITC) Ireland – Our diagnostics facility in Sligo is one of five Abbott in Ireland sites partnering with schools through BITC Ireland to address key educational issues.
  • Our involvement with National Engineers Week – In 2015, 43 Abbott volunteers worked with more than 400 students at National Engineers Week events.
