INNOVATING FOR THE FUTURE: ADVANCING SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

ABBOTT'S SCIENCE EDUCATION PROGRAMMES

Because our company is dedicated to innovation, at Abbott in Ireland we seek to inspire an interest in science in people of all ages. Through two science education programmes, Abbott Family Science and Operation Discovery, our employees help motivate and mentor young innovators. To date, more than 400 Abbott volunteers have reached nearly 4,000 students, parents and teachers across Ireland.

In 2011, we won a European Employee Volunteering Award, sponsored by the European Commission, recognising the success of our programmes. We were also "Highly Commended" for our efforts to promote science and engineering in Ireland at the first CSR Europe Awards in 2013.

PARTNERSHIPS

Abbott in Ireland partners with several initiatives to help advance science and engineering:

  • Scifest is an annual festival open to second-level students that encourages a love of science through enquiry-based learning. Abbott sponsors the Runner-Up Best Project Award at Scifest events across Ireland.
  • We partner with Engineers Ireland on several programmes, including National Engineers Week.
  • Our sites participate in National Science Week each year, hosting students for tours and career talks. We also run Abbott Family Science and Operation Discovery programmes throughout the week.
