Abbott employees in Cherrywood, Ireland recently presented a cheque for €16,500 to Women’s Aid. Chosen by employees as the ‘Charity of Choice’ for 2023 and 2024, the funds will be used by Women’s Aid to provide vital support to women affected by domestic abuse.
Abbott’s support of Women’s Aid is part of the company’s volunteering and giving initiative, Croí an Óir, which is Irish for ‘heart of gold.’ The programme was created in 2007 to enable Abbott employees in Ireland to give back to their local community.
Abbott employees took part in several fundraising events. On International Women’s Day, 18 people braved the cold March waters and took a dip at Wicklow Town Harbour in a sponsored swim that raised over €4,500. Fundraising walks also took place in Dun Laoghaire, Phoenix Park, and Wicklow Town, and handmade “wish bracelets” were sold. James Hally, Regional Finance Director, Ireland, Abbott said: "We are proud to present this cheque to Women's Aid and recognise the dedicated efforts of our Abbott employees. Over the past two years, our fundraising events have strengthened our partnership with Women's Aid, supporting their crucial work in raising awareness and providing support for domestic violence survivors across Ireland.”
